beneath the rubble
A most excellent weekend, the memory of which is nearly blotted out by the deluge of Today. So it goes. In honor of the fact that everyone has already taken all the good words denoting link dumps, Shaken and Stirred debuts:
HANGOVERS
- Coffee and Ink sees the third Ginger Snaps so you never, ever, never, ever have to.
- Sarah Weinman (who gives great recommendations*, nevermind crazy Laura Miller -- keep 'em coming!) wraps up some best of lists via numbers. (*Currently reading Jen Banbury's Like a Hole in the Head off this post on two "disappeared" Jens and loving it.)
- Map links at Metafilter. Me like maps. Especially ones with lost places on them. (Yes, I've read The Island of Lost Maps and I actually own an atlas of islands that never really were, which I picked up in a great bookshop on Kuai called The Tin Can Mailman.)
- Baby galaxies refuse to sing sweetly (via Firefly Girl, who also has the story on starlings in America case you've never encountered it).
- Largehearted boy's albums of the year. Far be it from me to quibble with someone who has such fine taste in music but whoever discovered The Streets? Please, go kill yourself. Although, when they were in heavy rotation on Sirius 26, I did perfect my lunging for the volume/station/emergency exit button maneuver.
- David Toscana info or recs anyone? He sounds amazing, especially as Outside of a Dog talks.
- There was that um, Gaddis book, huh? I suppose I'll start reading that again.
- MeFi dissects the Golden Age of Zines, which I'm hoping is now. (There are rumors of a new Say... issue and a non-lame Fortress of Words website. Shhhhh....)
- Also via MeFi, Sacco and Vanzetti link among others.
Go play, but not in the street.
