Um Halifax is nice. People are friendly, and it's a bit conservative socially so it shouldn't be too shocking to Americans.
On the other hand, Montreal is the best city in North America, and there is a great scene there for hip artists and writers.
On yet another hand, Alberta is the most conservative province, so if we're going to have a flood of American liberals we should probably send them there. It's cold as hell in Calgary and Edmonton in the winter, but Calgary has a great view of the mountains, and you can be hiking in them in something like an hour's drive.
