now that is a basketball player

Meet Kara Lawson of the Sacramento Monarchs. She's a joy to watch on the court.

This is basketball. Y'all can have the NBA.

(Pssst... the second finals game is on right now. ESPN2.)

(Justine's in San Miguel de Allende -- someone's gotta post about sports.)

Updated: So, the Monarchs totally blew it in overtime, but what a game. The third game on Sunday will be back in Sacramento and I can't wait.

    What sport is that again?

    Kidding.

Wow (on the Simmons, uh, "piece" that Tito linked). Nothing like a little raw hate and ignorance to liven up an afternoon. Go in and substitute appropriate variants of the word "negro" for "woman" in that article and you could just about fool me into thinking I'm reading a sports column from a fifties era issue of an Alabama newspaper.

Beyond that, as someone who likes teams sports that feature tactics and unselfishness--I'm speaking of here of elements of TEAM play--you'll never get very far with me arguing that womens sports have anything to prove in comparison to mens.

I echo that wow. I couldn't even make it all the way through.

Bullshit spoken with the same authority as people who say cycling isn't really a sport or is boring.

The fact that you need look no further than the Olympics to see the flaw in his argument -- Olympic U.S.A. women's basketball = awesome; Olympic U.S.A. men's basketball = Egofest with often shoddy fundamentals and, yeah, more showboating. Forgive me for liking the WNBA because I can see every player caring _all the time_ about their team.
