I want an ipod (but it's fairly low on the list of things I want, actually), but this sentence made me spit tea all over my keyboard:

I'll confess that music is important and that I listen to a lot of it. But who knew that one out of 10 Americans view the iPod as their fucking savior?

Yeah! And what those dumb little white headphones? (that barely warrant the name) We all remember how uncomfortable and hurtful those things are from the 90's.
And God forbid you'd plug in good headphones to your iPod. That would ruin the whole "look" and nobody will give you the thumbs-up in the subway, saying, "Yes, Man, we are proud to be part of the Herd!"

But have you seen how cute they are? (Yes, I must admit I bought an ipod shuffle the day they were announced - I am that person. and oh yeah, that's kind how I bought my ibook and my imac. Because the cuuute! is not to be resisted.)
Ahem. But the soung quality is quite good, works seemlessly with my mac and the teeny earphones are really comfortable.
I'm really happy I bought it.

yeaaah. they're definitely cute. and i download like a mad man so i'd love an mp3 player, but iPod's only work with iTunes songs, right?
and if you say the headphones are comfortable, i'll take your word for it. they've got to have made improvments to those things.

iPods only play iTunes stuff, true, along with any CDs you care to copy into them. But for someone like me who has lots o' CDs, it's a beautiful thing. It really is.
Y'all will understand once you've been assimilated.

Lord, no. You can't hear through those crappy little things, and they hurt my cartilage. I use a big honkin' set of nice Aiwas, and if people are staring I haven't even noticed.
