welcome to my martini glass

Dishwashers are great. One of the only things I remember about Marge Piercy's Woman on the Edge of Time is the scene where -- in the utopian future -- a character explains that they don't use machines to cook for them, because cooking is a creative, social activity, but they use automatic dishwashers, because nobody likes washing dishes.

As Jane Austen would say in the margins: So true!

Forget iPods or updated cell phones and PDAs. I decided just a few weeks ago that a dishwasher is next on my list of gadgets to acquire.

I can honestly say that two things have saved my marriage: TiVo and our beautiful, gorgeous, brilliant, sexy, hottt dishwasher. If I were on a desert island, it would be a tough call as to which I'd have with me (though, I'm thinking coconut bowls don't do so well with repeated santizings??).
